According to Immigration Minister Jonathan Coleman, few amendments are likely to be there on the cards concerning the export industry in New Zealand. These changes are likely to affect other major areas including students coming from overseas, and industries related to trade and tourism aspects.

The minister confirmed that the changes are likely to be inculcated in various facets like short-term study entitlements, enhancing the condition of work rights for overseas students, a relaxation of pastoral care and guardianship requirements and other aspects.

The announcement happened in Auckland at an even organized by Tourism Auckland. Almost 100 export providers gathered at the event, in order to discuss the future of export industry in New Zealand.

The Immigration minister further confirmed that the policy would see some major changes to ensure that overseas students who come here to study don’t make use of their education to gain permanent residency in the nation. It has been found in various cases that people make wrong use of Student Visa as a means to gain permanent residency in a country. As far as the statistics are concerned, 93,500 fee-paying students were enrolled in the education institutions in New Zealand as compared to with 88,570 in the year 2008.

Critics believe that amendments in the export policy would enhance the aspect of immigration in the upcoming future.

Immigration Minister Jonathan Coleman has stated in his statement that crime is a major issue which requires proper addressing from New Zealand’s point of view as far as the tourists coming to the country are concerned. The country needs to be attractive for people who come to study or visit its tourists destinations.  The government needs to be rigid on the crimes against the visitors!

The comments by the minister are followed by the warning that was placed on the website of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It stated the rising amount of crime and theft in Auckland, a warning which allowed the Kiwi Minister to speak out his words in this regard.

Dr Coleman then spoke about the reality stating that one cannot say that New Zealand is not a nation where crime is totally missing. Therefore, it is mandatory to work upon these aspects in order to make the country an alluring and interesting place to visit and study.

The meeting was held in Auckland and was coordinated by Tourism Auckland. Other aspects which were discussed in the issue were the challenges encountered by the industry at present and how to work upon them in the upcoming future.

The meeting discussed on the fact of students coming to the land of Kiwis since the past few years and the statistics have seen a hike in the last six years. The minister also provided hints on the implementation of various new policies to boost the industry’s growth.

The Migrant Expo is going to hold its annual event which focuses on providing jobs to Asians in New Zealand has changed its focus to self employment and money management this year. This event provides a great opportunity for foreigners to find a suitable job for themselves in New Zealand. But this focus has been shifted to self help employment because of high level of unemployment amongst local people in New Zealand.

New Zealand has always managed to recruit many skilled migrants but they are the last priority for Kiwi employers to employee them, as the preference is given to local New Zealander only. The changing scenario of economic condition and rising unemployment rate in country makes it very difficult for foreigners to find jobs for themselves. Through recent survey, it has been reveled that nearly 510,000 people are unemployed in Auckland and the rate of unemployment has reached from 5.1 percent last year to 7.3 percent this year. And figures are worse in case of Asians, as the unemployment rate is higher than 9.8 percent making more than 22,000 Asians jobless.

Mainly, it has been manufacturing, retail and construction and financial and insurance service industry industries whose graph of unemployment has shown maximum decline in jobs. Employed citizens always have an upper hand for settling in New Zealand in comparison to unemployed and this is the reason that so many Asians look for job in New Zealand.

The Migrant Expo is going to hold its event this year which is an only annual event in which students, refugees and migrants can gather information about various issues related to settlement in New Zealand. Visitors can be a part of seminars, career planning, money management and worker’s rights. But this time they are really wondering that what fruitful results this event will going to yield as the focus is more on self employment due to lack of job opportunities in New Zealand.

The Hotel industry of New Zealand is facing huge loss as many restaurant owners are experiencing shortage of well qualified and experienced chefs in New Zealand. And it is difficult to employ the foreign chefs because they don’t get the skilled work permit so easily.  Some restaurant owners have even complained that their business is going into losses as the staffs have to leave the country even, when it is difficult to find the new employees.

The immigration officials are now looking forward to review the immigration policies for chefs who apply for work permit in New Zealand. This problem has been a cause for hotel industry for last one year but immigration officials never bothered to pay any attention to their complaints. As they always believed that there are enough of chefs available in New Zealand who can fulfill the demands of experienced chefs in the industry. The problem is worse in Wellington than anywhere else because Wellington is on its way towards establishing its name as food and culinary destination.

In one of the meeting with Immigration New Zealand, they claimed to have at least 28 unemployed experienced chefs for Wellington but later on, only two chefs applied for the job leaving the hospitality people in frustration.

The Ministry of Labor is the government body of New Zealand (which also includes immigration) checks the status of New Zealander to fulfill the demands of growing job vacancies through the data revealed by Ministry of Social Developmet (MSD). These two government bodies communicate with each other to make sure that there are enough New Zealanders for job vacancies. There has been miss communication between the two bodies which led to confusion as many people applied for the job of chefs but they lacked the requisite experience.

The immigration is considering the new policy for the chefs in New Zealand because of genuine shortage of chefs but the preference will be given to New Zealanders only in genuine and extreme case, work permit would be granted to foreigners.

The net immigration in the country of Kiwis plummeted to an eighteen-month low in May, which has led the people think if the country is less preferred destination for immigration to live in! Over the last month, a total of 250 permanent and long-term migrants entered the country, says the Statistics New Zealand. The figure marked the lowest arrivals since November 2008.

Similarly, the country’s yearly immigration also declined immensely. Reason behind the decline is fewer people arriving from the UK and Europe, which usually happen to be the major sources of migrants for New Zealand. The number of people leaving New Zealand for Australia had grown to 1,693 last month, from 1,241 in the same month of 2009.

Besides, the number of tourists to New Zealand also went down 0.4 percent to 141,300 in May, as compared to the same month of 2009. Along, visitors from Australia, New Zealand’s major source of tourists, dropped 5 percent, while the number of visitors from the UK went down 15 percent. Visitors from China, Japan and South Korea surged 45 percent, thanks to the HINI flu pandemic that occurred last year, which had wrecked the travel demand world, said country’s government statistics officials.

However, it is also observed that while migrants are no more preferring Australia as one their favorite destinations, owning to many reasons, including racial discrimination, New Zealand, being Australia neighboring country is gaining the former’s prospective migrants of late. If you are considering immigrating to the Kiwi land, you can seek the professional help of an Immigration and Visa consultant!

He feels that with time New Zealand is growing in religion, so the constant availability of these preacher and church clerks are very important. The immigration of these workers in New Zealand is quite less in number and around ten people are given the permanent residency status every year. Only few religious leaders are granted permanent residency, otherwise the rest are living on temporary visa only.
