Sometimes I doubt the intentions of cricketers!
I mean after earning millions through match fee, advertising, modeling, bidding, auctions, I doubt whether cricketers now play with their honest intentions and provide their 100% while playing against the opponents! Here I am NOT involving all the cricketers, nor will I name any one of them, but is it not that a majority of the cricketing audience have already started feeling that Cricketers do run after money, apart from what their actual priority which should be Cricket?
Okay, let us talk about the recent buzz: IPL3: which is around the corner! Money, Money and more Money! Which cricketer is sold for how much? What is the current value of each team? Who are the sponsors? How much the owners are earning out of it? What is the TRP? How much the channel is getting for broadcasting the matches? I mean, are we guys really giving any emphasis on the short selection, the choice of bowlers, the harmony amongst a team, class of a batsman, and the technicality of a bowler? No!!! Even the captains of the teams are too busy in grabbing all the money at one go rather than concentrating on what should be the actual composition of their team! They can only make a team of those players who have been allotted to them by their franchise owners! I mean, is this what we call a real CRICKET?
Forget about IPL, in general also, tell me, why there are not ample test matches played in a year, as compared to ODIs and T20s. While on one side, a test match fails to gather a crowd of 1000, the strength multiplies to almost 40 times during an ODI and T20? It is obvious that cricket boards (like BCCI, which is the richest board) get plenty of audiences, TRPs and revenues out of ODIs, so they don’t find any need to fit test matches in their yearly cricketing schedules. It is all about the “MONEY GAME.”
Now let us talk something about the Sponsors! The huge following of tabloid cricket creates little surprise that multinational companies want to spend millions on advertising, be it online or offline. With so much money pouring in their pockets, one can imagine the effect which it can create on the mindset of cricketers. After all, they are HUMANS too!
Comparing the money factor, the money in cricket is nowhere near comparable to the money involved in other sports. Hockey, the national game of India is struggling to get ample sponsors, while Indian cricket team is finding it difficult to choose from the big multinational corporate companies who are lying in queues to sponsor them!
Now allow me to give you a glimpse of the players’ intentions! I remember watching a post match presentation, where MS Dhoni was seen in one of his best moods, despite the fact that his team lost to a low level test team and that too by a huge margin! But that didn’t bother the captain at all. He got his match fee, plenty of sponsors and the required audience for the game! What else can he ask for? People will gradually forget the result and move on with their lives! There are plenty of matches ahead, come on, who will remember the losses!!! Right Folks

Why not? After all they are the bunch of professional players, and they don’t think about the feelings of the people who are coming to the stadium to watch the match. If you see from one angle it is good too, why to think about the result of the match?
oh god…mr. alok what are u saying.. these cricketers should play for their country and fans first and then go for the money,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,afterall, its fans who make them the real gods.
Hello simran, what do you want to say? Why will they play for their fans? They play for their team, weather it is for a country or for a club, and then they give their best. Now that doesn’t mean that they will win every time they go to the ground. After a loss, why will they think about it? They are professional players.
yessssss it is… tats true.. Its jz more than cricket.. in very other terms.. tat is so no related to passion and interests these days
Keeping the frenzy aside, a balance has to be made between money and the game. It is agreed that money is important but then money should not be everything. A balance is essential to keep the spirit of the game alive!
i too doubt intentions of some players at times…sometimes it impels me to think if this game is a pathway to glamor and attain fame only?
Money comes to you only after you perform. You can perform if you have talent & the ability to execute that talent. This requires dedication, determination & discipline compound with hard work. Why we are talking about cricketers? Are we also not working for money?Or we have some special emotions towards our work?If we have that special emotion towards our work then what make us think that those playing at the highest levels where they have reached after taking the massive risk in their life of loosing everything, are not emotional about their work??We accepted the common man life because we fear of taking risk..A Dhoni or a Pathan would have been nowhere had they not reached this level.Behind these 20 players there are many who do not reach anywhere & struggle for rest of their lives.Point I am trying to address is that to doubt that they are only playing for money has no relevance because this money will not come to them if they will not give their 100%.This talk of playing for nation or not is all rubbish.Every individual be in any profession can do its bit for the nation.Ask yourself how many of us are doing that bit for the nation??Are we not following our routine of work?Over & above who want to loose?Let us stop searching hole in someone’s success.Success of IPL is not only benefiting to players alone,it is benefiting to millions of people.

Interesting debate this is ! Is it not true that to earn money from sports, you must first play good enough to make money! And if you wish to make money on continued basis, you need to play one on regular ongoing basis? There are 3 motivating factors – money, recognition and self esteem. A player with long term goal follows all factors
This is a never ending debate.
At the end of the day, its the cricketers who get all the fame and benefits and its the masses, who like foolish personalities, watch the game, spend thousands of bucks on tickets and return to their cozy bedrooms, forgetting the outcome of every match after a day or so! I mean, come on, there are plenty of matches which happen every year. Tell me, how many of us still remember the outcome of the last test series or the one day series which happened recently? Probably None! People watch, forget and move on with their lives! And cricketers do understand this facet very well!
We have to accept this fact that Cricket is a money game at the end of the day…… Indian cricketers know their importance that they are being served as Gods in cricket,, knowing this facet, they hold the responsibility of putting in their best on the cricketing field. The time span which they spend in promotions, advertising, ramp shows, and other money gathering activities should actually go into the net practice (at least that’s what I feel), which would further enhance their performance on the field…. Coz at the end of the day, they, (unlike a common man), hold the responsibility of crores of citizens on their shoulders.
Note: Not all cricketers are money minded, but a few of them have really spoiled the true spirit of this lovable game!
@Rohit. Thank you for your comments. At last you have joined us in our debates! We would love to have your team members from Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune join in on regular and ongoing basis as well!
