Let us face it guys! The crowd is lacking the buzz, the rush for IPL tickets is low and people are not even discussing about IPL3, the way it was being discussed in the first two IPLs!
Okay, let us discuss some of the facets that may come into play in making IPL, a NOT MUCH talked show of the town! Have a look:
- The first factor would be the threat of terrorism revolving around one of the biggest sporting events. With the plus point that it is happening in India, the negative point can be that India never lags behind when it comes to unexpected terrorist activities, which may happen anytime, anywhere!
- It is happening in March: The most unwanted phase of a year for students! Guys, they face their exams. Will their parents allow them to stick to their TV screens from 4pm to 12am regularly? No!
- The ticket prices are hiking every single moment. While the price of one ticket for the Hockey World Cup held in Delhi was as low as 50 bucks, the same may go as high in thousands, especially when you have some of the craziest fans in India, who can kill anyone just to get a glimpse of their favorite cricketers.
- We all know that Pakistani players are not participating in the IPL3, but don’t you think that their presence would be missed in the matches? The stupendous batting of Shahid Afridi, the killing bowling of Umar Gul, to name a few, would surely be missed this time!
- What next? The marriage between the IPL3 and YouTube may not be seen in a favorable light as not many audiences would show patience while the video is buffering and your favorite player is on the crease! At least, I won’t!
These are some of the factors! Let us see what the future has in store for the fate of IPL3!

Nice article, but the cricket fans ignore all the problems.
We will be enjoy IPL3 because IPL 3 is now played in india.
Well I think every year IPL is played in the month of March April only, but still it got all the TRP’s. Even the Bollywood fear to release any new movie, just because they know that the show times of 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 are ruined by IPL. Second point about ticket price, in India people will not go to purchase a ticket of only 50 Rs to watch the hockey match, but they can spend 20,000 Rs. to just watch a cricket match. And this cricket match will also have the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Priety Zinta, Akshay Kumar etc. so why not they will purchase the ticket at any coast?
Threat of terrorism is really there but we Indian really know now that we will have to live in the same environment, so why to fear? If we will fear, then we won’t be able to live a single day in the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad etc.
Forget about watching IPL on youtube in India, no one is interested to watch the 20-20 match in this slow speed.
What a waste is the IPL. Waste of time, waste of money, and we Indian are so much excited about it. Surprising.
Nicely said Priyanka, it is true that we Indians are too much crazy about cricket, I think now the time has arrived when we should declare cricket as the national game. It is not true that I don’t support the Indian Hockey team, but now we can only have sympathy for them.
Hit or flop…cricket is cricket!!! It would still have its set of takers to watch…
LETS SEE WHAT THE FUTURE HAS IN STORE FOR IPL3..
May be I am getting older but I do not understand all this craze about IPL in the first place. Also it is materialising the entire sports concept to the extent of obscenity. It is only making rich richer and it is determinent to the negative growth of individual sports (read athletics). I will agree with it only if 20% of all profits by BCCI and Franchises is dedicated to sports bodies that are involved promotion of individual sports.
I agree with you priyanka,, We surely would glue ourselves to the TV screens to watch exciting IPL matches, but I personally feel that the above mentioned factors would surely have SOME effect on the popularity of IPL this season. Let me clear out:
a) I believe that the mingle btw Pakistani players with Indians is one of the crucial factors as to why people watch IPL.. With the same missing this year, the interest would go down, if NOT by a huge margin.
I personally would have love to see Shahid Afridi and Rohit Sharma bat together for their team Deccan Chargers… but unfortunately that wont happen this time
or lets talk about another Indo-Pak player union———–the duo of Shoaib Akhtar and Sourav Together together in their Kolkatta Knight Rider jerseys is something that cricket fans would love to watch……..but these aspects would be missing this time.
b) As far as the ticket prices are concerned, I can bet that a common man would never go and spend 12,000 bucks for an IPL match….. would you?
c) Talking about terrorism.. u r right that we Indians are used to it,, but don’t you think that a family man would think twice before talking his only child and wife to the stadium, especially when the incident of German Bakery in Pune is so fresh in our minds..
d) At the end of the day, the article doesn’t say that IPL would totally be a flop show,, but the above mentioned facets would surely have an impact on it,,,,, for sure.
all i can say is I jus love IPL n I’m seriously waiting for the event.
Ofcourse Afridi will be missed(such a heart throb is!!!)
n come on yaar we are Indians, read cricket crazy, I’m sure it’ll be a hit anyway!!!
if not the game or the players or the media, the cheer girls would manage to do that
No matter how popular Cricket is in India, I really think it’s complete waste of time..however, IPL matches are faster and involve a lot of things apart from the game, viz glamour..time will tell whether IPL3 is going to be a hit or flop show…I would definitely catch up one or two matches…
wtever… its cricket…a game… dats it..
m looking frwd to it
yup
I agree with most of your comments. .Too much cricket took away the interest to watch cricket that too being a parent. Now IPL and in April it is world cup.
Do you know which are the three IPLs?
According to me there are 3 IPLs. Of course, the well-known expansion is Indian Premier League. However, this IPL makes the students run out by another IPL known as Interrupt Priority Level. Here, watching Cricket in the exam month of March, interrupting their exam priorities, will surely force them bowled out by scoring less marks. While being bowled out, these poor chaps are forced to witness organizers and IPL players scoring or not scoring runs, but surely making money to remain secure forever in future. Whereas our poor students will have no other option, but to remain in their third IPL Zone, known as, Idiotic Personality Level.
