Quebec Skilled Worker Programme—A Brief Introduction

The popular and widely used Quebec Skilled Worker Programme (QSWP) gives an opportunity to foreign skilled workers to bring their career to new level of success. The French Canadian province aims at luring immigrants with high skills from every corner of the world, to keep its economy growing.

Currently, applications under the QSWP are being accepted. The province has announced that for August 16, 2016 to August 22, 2016, 500 fresh applications will be accepted.

The Quebec Government plans to create at least 115,000 new opportunities in sectors, like innovation and knowledge, by the end of 2017. It means the coming year is crucial and the movement of skilled workers to the province will increase extensively and a large number of skilled workers will get an opportunity to live their dreams in reality.

What is Quebec Skilled Worker programme?

It is a Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP) that allows the foreign skilled workers to come to the province and practice their skills. The programme was introduced to meet the demand of the local market.

To make the programme more effective and accountable, the Quebec Government has made certain amendments, such as from January 2016 it is must for those who wish to immigrate to Quebec using the QSWP to secure space Mon project. Potential applicants are issued a Quebec Selection Certificate (Certificat de sélection du Québec, also known as a CSQ), and finally the Permanent Residency (PR) status is given.

Applicants are selected on the basis of following factors:-

• Education
• Experience
• Language
• Skills
• Age
• Spouse or common law partner
• Financial capability
• Children

Qualifying Marks

Under the point grid system, single candidates must score at least 49 points where as the married ones with spouse or common law partner must score not less than 57 points. Additionally, aspirants may score up to six points extra. Taking these points into consideration single applicant must score at least 55 points and married applicants must score at least 63 points.

The province is proud to announce that till date more than 41,000 applications have been accepted under the programme, and it is expected by the end of 2016 the number will cross 50,000. Applicants who seem promising with strong credentials and a clear intention to permanently settle in the province and actively contribute towards its economic development are given an opportunity to live and work in the province. Besides, if you have the knowledge of French language, your application will be fast processed and you stand a strong chance to qualify.

To apply for the Quebec Skilled Worker Visa one needs to submit their application to the Quebec Govt. for a certificate de selection du Quebec (CSQ). The certificate signifies that the Quebec Government has agreed to accept applicant as its immigrant, thereafter they are required to apply for PR to IRCC.
