Street Games Vanishing!!!

With the continuous inflow of X Boxes, video games, CDs, DVDs of new games, online games, mobiles games, I often get a feeling that street games are losing their existence day by day. The kids of today’s generation don’t know a single bit about what a gully cricket or an “Ice Pice” meant to us! Or say a game like Chuppan Chuppai (Hide and Seek) which was a common game to play for children in late 90s. But with the advancement of technology and lack of time, children are gradually losing their innocence and so are the games which are losing their existence in today’s fast paced society!

Street Games Vanishing!

Then you have this monster of EGO coming in between the kids… Why should I call that friend when he himself is not interested in talking? Why should I call him and drag him out of his house to play gully football when I can flaunt my new Play Station to him and his friends by calling them home! These are today’s kids for you!

I always think moments after moments, “Have we lost the innocence we used to enjoy in our times?” Will those days ever come back again or will they NEVER?

And what about games like Pali, Dhappa, Stappu, Piththu…? I know some of the people reading this piece have not even heard of these names, forget about playing them… I would impose a partial blame on parents too who love to keep their kids in inner premises, not allowing them to play outside and acquaint them as to what the world has to offer to this young budding generation. There are plenty of things for them to explore, but the parents are happy confining them in four walls of their cozy homes and gifting them all the latest X Boxes and Play Stations, only to add more pressure on their eyes!

Writing this blog, I myself am feeling so nostalgic that I feel like calling all my childhood pals, dragging them from their office premises and shouting on them to play with me in this rain outside! But I CAN’T do it! Time has rushed like a running waterfall! Those times are gone now! Now I can only remember that dirt, those streets, those games and those pals, while sitting on my advanced computer system! TECHNOLOGY!!!
