The best part which I liked about this amazing, yet absurd movie is its tapoori accent which is the trademark of our very rapchik Mumbai! I mean I liked the movie a lot, especially when plans are made in a hurry. But this is not just about a hurried plan and a nice cozy movie with friends; this is about a simple story, an ordinary script, a low-budget flick, but EXTRAORDINARY acting!

This Yash Raj flick is an amazing portrayal of the backstreets of Mumbai and the dreams of the characters that live in the minute corners of this stylish city! These are everywhere… Malad, Churchgate, Kandiwali… Two such characters are One Shot Nandu and Pinky Palkar! And then you have their friends Chaddi, Diesel, UsmanBhai Kachchi Kali and Gulkand revolving around them every moment.

The plot is simple, yet inspiring! You can say the ending is absurd, but that’s okay… I was not expecting perfection, but the movie managed pretty well as compared to my expectations. And when my expectations are met, I feel good! Hence, this is one of the aspects I am writing a review on it. Wait a minute! What all am I talking? Why am I talking about my expectations? Let me take a reverse gear and come back to the plot please. Nandu (Neil) is a fighter who thrashes his opponent fighters blindfolded. And then you have Pinky Palkar (Deepika) who surprised me with her serious acting… Mind you, this time it was really serious. She is a dancer who gets blind in the midst of her life journey, but still doesn’t leave her hopes to win a talent show, all thanks to Nandu who teaches him to see life through his eyes! And what does he gets in return? He gets her love!

But is everything that simple as it is sounding right now? No! Of course not! You have this typical Mumbai mafia working in the background of the movie, a horrifying police inspector who shows his presence here and there just to create certain twists in the movie! And then you have this so-called DON, who leaves no stone unturned in letting the audiences think… “Will everything be alright in the end”?

The sentiments are high (provided the audience has the heart to feel them.) The music is excellent (if you believe my ears). All in all, a nice Pradeep Sarkar flick… and a MUST WATCH!

Much before the release of the Bollywood movie, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, a trip to a Goa had been quite a rage among youngsters. But, the new-found rage and the spirited visits to India’s smallest state inspired by the Farhan Akhtar’s movie cannot be denied. Because, I was one of those who got crazy over the idea of going to Goa and I still remember how I would insist my friends to plan out trips to this beautiful place. The craze is still there, though!

There is always an excitement when Goa bumps into our conversation. Such is the charm of this place that captivates everyone from young to old people alike. But, in most of the cases, when it comes to a yearly holiday trip, most family people or older people would name a few of the religious places around the corners, but given a choice, young people would always opt for their ultimate Indian destination, Goa! So, what is there that always attracts people, not only from the desi corners, from across the globe as well? Let’s find out…

Much has been written and talked about the beautiful sun-kissed beaches and the whitewashed churches. They have always added charm to the reputation of the state as one of the most visited and famous Indian tourist destinations. I don’t think that I need to discuss them once again. Come on, you can find ample written matter defining how beautiful the beaches and the churches are! I am here to let you skim through the reasons as to why young people always find it alluring to take a trip to Goa.

The fact that the local people in Goa are so accepting and welcoming may be one of the reasons. You can find all the major religions in the state assimilating and living peacefully. People are so free spirited and it seems they do not like to interfere in others lives. They lead a carefree life! You can never find such a man-made environment (natural environment/beauty needs no mention) elsewhere in India, for sure!

Whenever you are in Goa, you can always find a jolly group of people around you that is playing joyful music. Music is an integral part of the Goan culture. Goan people are as much fond of western music, ranging from classical to jazz, from county to blues as they are for Indian music. The music has deep impact of Portuguese style, for obvious reasons! So, roaming around the small towns and even villages are just one-of-a-kind experience. It’s very alluring for one to escape from the rush of the typical Indian metro cities and take refuge of the healthy and picturesque Goa!

What to say about the state’s nightlife? As I said Goan people are very carefree, and from this you can imagine how interesting the Goan nightlife can be! Adorned with a complete westernized atmosphere, party venues, pubs, clubs and discos are quite happening. Yes, Goa is youthful and that’s one of the main reasons why young people find it enchanting. When we are talking about nightlife, how could alcohol be left out? You may often find the price of the alcoholic drinks, including imported liquor cheaper than most parts of India. So, why Goa cannot be a favorite destination of youths?

So, I have put down the reasons that make Goa an enchanting place to be in for youngsters from my point of view. Do you have your own reasons? Please, do share with us and make your favorite destination more attractive ;)

In the chaotic so-called preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2010, there is atleast one ray of hope in the form of official CWG 2010 theme song. This has been composed by none other than our very own A.R. Rehman. So we can be sure that for once we have something that can be considered as being original. The theme song has been approved by the empowered Group of Ministers (GoM). This decision was brought about after a meeting was held. The song has been titled “Swagatham”. As of now, it has been planned to be released in the coming ten days. However, this date is still tentative.

When it comes to the composition, it has stated that the theme song was discussed amongst the GoM along with Producer Bharat Bala and Film Maker Shyam Benegal. As of now, this song has been consented in-principle and so, would take another ten days to be presented to the people.

It has been asserted by S. Jaipal Reddy, the Union Development Minister that there would not be any change of plans or delays pertaining to the various deadlines for the completion and the availability of the facilities at the various stadiums for the events to be hosted over a period of 11 days.

With only a few weeks away for the games to begin, the above can be considered as being quite optimistic amongst dark clouds. But then, with the Mozart of Madras behind atleast one aspect of the games, it sure would be a promising retreat. The main reason behind selecting Rehman, as per the sources has been to bring out a cult song, something on the lines of “Waka Waka” which was the anthem for the FIFA World Cup.

With a seasoned musician like Rehman, an Oscar and Grammy winner, we can be sure that of all the aspects in India, the music would definitely be something which the tourists can carry back to their nations. More so, since Indian music has many forms and is completely from the west, we sure can be a market, the backdrop for which is being set in the form of the CWG. In other words, this is also a great platform to promote India as a nation.

On the other hand, the Commonwealth Games are about a few weeks away. With charges of corruption arising everywhere and scams unfolding, let’s hope the city lives up to its expectations. But then a ray of hope always does wonders…so, who knows!

Indians are known for their rich culture and traditions. I don’t think so that there is any other country which has such rich variety or festivals, religions, language, culture and tradition. And the richness of Indian culture is best reflected in our festivals and marriages.

Marriage plays a very significant role in an individual’s life but in India marriage is an occasion which is special not only for the wedding couples but for their families, friends and well-wishers as well. It is celebrated with lavishness with the involvement of everyone to make the occasion special.

In fact marriage is not considered to be merely an institution of which two individuals had to be a part of but it is taken as a lifetime commitment which extends up to seven births of the couple. Families from both the sides of the couple unite with each other, thus forming a larger family. The beautiful union of two families reflects that we Indians give much importance to relationships in our lives. Indians have an image of being an emotional people and this is because relationships occupy the top position in our priority list.

Every religion has its own different way of celebrating marriage but one thing is common amongst all of them and that is that every religion celebrates it in an extravagant way with music, dance, traditional food and clothes. The celebration of wedding starts almost week before the wedding day with various customs and rituals. One of the most significant customs is ‘sagai’ in which bride and groom exchange rings followed by ‘ladies sangeet’. Ladies sangeet is the most exciting part of wedding celebration in which girls express their joy through dance. It is usually celebrated a night before the wedding day. Then we have another ritual called ‘baraat’ in which groom and his family along with friends arrive at the wedding venue while dancing on the streets with musical bands and lights.

In India, weddings are celebrated like some festival only. There is no denial that with time, things have changed and certain changes have modified the wedding ceremonies and rituals. But some rituals have stood by these changing times and they are still practiced today with same vigor and joy. One of those rituals is applying heena on hands and feet of the bride to enhance her beauty. Even bride’s female friends and sister also apply heena on their hands. Applying heena is a great form of art for which Indians are very popular in world. Indian artists are extremely proficient and talented to make beautiful designs with lot of intricacies and details.

The celebration continues after wedding also for week long days as well. Along with pre wedding celebrations, there are post wedding celebrations as well which doubles the joy of occasion. In Hindu religion in ‘pag phera’ bride comes back to her home on the next day of the wedding with her father and brother for one day.

In comparison to before, many customs and rituals are not celebrated owing to the deficiency of time and lack of complete knowledge about them. But that does not reduce the charm of Indian weddings at all. The zeal to celebrate the occasion is still alive in the hearts of Indian people which makes it possible that our Indian weddings still reflects the culture of India.

In today’s world, media has made a very special place for itself in our lives. If I say that today, media has become as important as food and clothing, then I don t think so that I am over exaggerating anything. There is no denial that media is playing a very significant role in making the world smaller. Through various mediums of media whether it is radio, television, newspaper or internet, we are able to connect with large number of people around us. Especially internet has truly become the need of every individual both for our work and to connect with our friends and well wishers. Facebook, Orkut and Twitter have occupied such special place in our lives that if we are not a part of it, then there is something really important that we are missing.

Besides connecting with our friends, media also informs us about the world happenings. In one line I can say that media is like a mirror of the society which reflect each and everything about the society to us. Media people from television and print takes the risk of their lives to inform us about important news. To some extent I can compare these brave journalists with our soldiers who do not bother about their lives and takes the responsibility to aware the general masses about the truth. I think it is almost impossible to imagine a life without media.

But one also can not overlook this fact that slowly commercialization is also coming in media. Media has a huge responsibility of conveying the truth and relevant information to the common man. But somewhere this seems to be taking a back seat for media people as they are focusing more on commercialization. Now a days, hot news which can help in increasing the TRP rates of the channel becomes the priority for them. But there are still some ethical people in media who are struggling to maintain the real purpose of it.

But media is not just confine to informing us about the world happenings and serving a means to connect with people, in fact it also affects out thinking patterns as well. The way we think and perceive various issues about the world is also shaped up by media. Today everyone especially youth is growing so aware about his responsibilities towards society is because of media. Campaign such as Teach India and Jaago Grahak Jaago helps in spreading awareness about human rights and duties.

When it comes to media, how can one forget to talk about the entertainment industry? Entertainment is something that one can not live without. Be it movies, radio, internet etc., media is just everywhere in our life. Today entertainment is so easily available that every common person is able to afford it. Music and movies are so easily available to us through the internet that one does not have to spend loads of money on them.

If we just look around then we would find that there is no aspect of our life which is not touched and affected by media. Be it our work, relationships, education or entertainment, media is seen everywhere. And there is no denial that we can not live without media.

Liberal Art is a new way to approach learning and education as it includes the study of various subjects ranging from science to performing arts. Liberal education includes various subjects such as science, philosophy, political science, music, performing arts, history and literature.

Some may say that what’s the use of studying various subjects if by studying them, one can not earn bread butter for oneself. There are few pop stars that have been the role models of millions of youngsters around the world alike. Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, and few other names belong to this category. But when one talks about a most recent addition to this list, the name Madonna instantly comes to the mind.

As someone crazy about music, Madonna has never been my favorite. But there is something about her which has always made me dig deeper about this celebrity. Even at this stage when she is above the age of 50 years, she continues to be a favorite of the old and the young. She has donned many hats which include that of a recording artist, an actress, an author as well as entrepreneur. With a career prospering for more than two decades and is still on, she has been an icon to many.

Madonna was born in 16th August 1958 as Madonna Louise Ciccone in Bay City in Michigan. Her mother died at the age of 30 due to cancer which led Madonna to take care of herself and her siblings. In 1977, she moved to New York City to seek a career in modern dance. She finally released her debut album in 1983 which was then followed with many records making her quite popular. Her boldness to experiment with lyrics as well as the video portrayal in mainstream pop music led to her music finding a permanent place on MTV. She received critical acclaim for her diverse work in music which explored many different themes such as those of sex as well as religious symbolism. At the same time, her music fell prey to controversy especially with many religious leaders despising her work.

But then just like those few favorite celebrities, she has always been in the news which gave her the apt platform to promote herself. In her long career, she has released eleven albums as a singer. Most of her songs have been on the top spot in the record charts. These include 4 Minutes, Like a Virgin, Frozen, Music, Papa Don’t Preach, Vogue and many more. Apart from the eleven albums, she has featured and sung for many albums for other artists as well. She is known to constantly evolve and reinvent herself through her music. Along with this, her public image led to the creation of autonomy as well as redefining the standards in the industry.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Madonna is the top selling female recording artist of all time in the world. She was named as the best-selling female rock artist of the twentieth century by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The RIAA also listed her as the second top-selling female artist with sixty four million certified albums in the United States. The list is simply endless with many other associations and magazines such as the Billboard as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame giving credentials to her work and career as a singer and recording artist.

But it does not end here. As an actress, she was highly acclaimed for her role of Eva Peron in Evita. She had even won a Golden Globe award for the same. Her other movies include Dick Tracy, A league of Their Own, Body of Evidence, Desperately Seeking Susan and so on.

Soon she added another feather to her hat in the form of a children’s writer. In 2003, she released a series of books for children. With this, she started Maverick Corporation, a recording company which is a joint venture with Time Warner. She signed a US$120 million contract with Live Nation in 2007.

Apart from the above, she is also a fashion designer, a producer as well as a director. Keeping all these credentials aside, she has always been known to be a trendsetter as well as for her sense of style. From the notorious kid who was unfortunate to see her mother die at a very young age to the diva that she is today, it has been a long journey for this woman. And so, the aura still continues!

Who would not want a laugh riot in life on a daily basis? And so, a channel has come about called “Mastiii” from the stables of Sri Adhikari Brothers. A 24-hour non stop channel for those seeking entertainment minus the sobs! The best part is that this channel is for everyone…pure unadulterated – uncensored fun.

Mastiii New TV Channel by SAB Group

With the famous comedians of the nation being roped in with some added dose of music, it is sure to win the hearts of the audience. The channel has been devised in such a manner which can be considered as a radio on television to be tuned in at any time of day or night.

The music varies from all time favorites to the latest music on the charts. The main aspect is that the channel intends to play the entire song instead of showing bits of a piece. Seventy five of the channel content is music where as the rest twenty five percent is aimed at comedy which is the station’s unique selling point.

A channel aimed at making people laugh can be considered as something very innovative especially in times where reality shows are the flavor of the season. Apart from this, there are specific channels aimed at entertainment, lifestyles and other genres. This can be considered as the first attempt for a comic channel. With this, the SAB group is breaking away from their regular stereotypes of thirty minute shows. Instead, there are one-minute fillers, jokes and gags in between the music.

The SAB Group is expecting the channel to be a success very soon with comedians like Suresh Menon, Raju Srivastav, Sunil Pal, Sugandha Mishra, Shailesh Lodha, Kiku Sharda and many more. These comedians are already household names. So, the audience is expected to tune in with these established names.

So, from our favorite politicians to cricketers to film stars all the way to villagers, we can expect jokes and gags of all forms. So, I am definitely tuning in to this channel as soon as it is available on my idiot box.
