According to a report, immigration to UK has increased over 20% in the last one year. This has come about when more and more students from overseas are coming to study in Britain.

As per the Office of National Statistics, the total long term immigration for the last year was about 196,000. When compared to that of 2008, it was 163,000. With this, the number of student visas has also increased by 35% which led to a number of 362,015 till June. It has been seen that there has been a rise in the number of students coming to pursue higher education in UK. This has been after the introduction of the Points Based System.

However, many campaign groups have argued that this system is more of an ambiguity as many local students are not proceeding with higher education due to unexplained places. Damian Green, the Immigration Minister for Britain said that there would a thorough assessment of these rules.

On the other hand, there are many students who come to UK. At the same time, the universities in the nation also spot them as a good source of income especially when the government is putting cuts on the budgets for higher education. According to a research which came about recently, about a third of universities are also planning to raise their intake of foreign students for their undergraduate courses.

Keeping the admissions to traditional universities aside, many more foreign students have enrolled to about 600 lower tier colleges where it is much easier to obtain an admit. At the same time, these colleges are accredited to give out bachelor degrees.

These colleges also offer qualifications in ancient medicine, circus skills as well as acupuncture. Most of these students also obtain a work permit in the country after finishing their graduate. As per the report, there are about 4,000 illegal migrants who are supposed to have taken benefit of fake colleges to walk into the nation.

In a written statement to a question asked in Rajya Sabha, the Minister for External Affairs, Mr. S.M. Krishna said that no student has come forth with complaints. About 20 representations have been received from students by the High Commission of India which is situated in Canberra along with the Consulates General in Sydney and Melbourne. These students have been affected due to the closure of colleges. Their representations have been for their fee refunds.

At the same time, alternate placements are being offered to such international students in similar colleges or institutions. Incase, similar placements are not being offered or available or are being accepted, the students have the option of getting their money refunded. Such cases of Indian students in Australia are being addressed with the relevant Australian authorities for the relocation or for the refund of the tuition fee.

However, despite the tuition fee being refunded, many of these students have lost out on a lot. Despite being placed in a similar course in some other institution, it might not be the same. This is especially when they walked into the nation with lots of hopes and aspirations.

Above all, since the DIAC has all the rights to change the rules without any prior notification, it is highly suggested that these students are better prepared for such mishaps which are quite unfortunate. More so, the advice of an immigration consultant dealing with student visas for Australia would give a better insight for students as to how to deal with such a situation.

Does the profession of teaching hold the same value it once had in India? In the ancient times a “Guru” held the highest position in the society. The Guru was looked upon with respect and gratitude. It was the time when the society was governed by principles which were considered above every other aspect.

Changing Face of Teaching in India

However, in times of today, the definition of teaching has changed completely with the profession becoming more of money churners. This is in the form of coaching institutes springing at every corner of a street, professional teachers taking up private tuitions (which is against the laws of any organization they are serving).

Being more of a money making business today, it is a very common sight for high school teachers running tuitions on their very cell phone itself. More so, it is quite common for these teachers charging money in order to grant marks in the practical exams of students. Most of these teachers do not even teach in their classrooms. I still remember my physics teacher whispering to a class of forty. And in order to learn, one had to be a front bencher. With only four rows in a classroom at a time, there were only eight fortunate students who could learn some of the important concepts in physics. What respect would anyone have for such teachers who look into personal gain even at the cost of the future of a student?

There are many reasons behind why the circumstances are such? Money is definitely one of the reasons as mentioned above. With this, when it comes to the income levels in this profession, it is comparatively less than other management professions. This has obviously led to less number of students opting for this profession. However, with the sixth pay commission, the salaries have increased by almost 40%. But is this enough to attract more youngsters to take up so-called noble profession?

With the lack of enough teachers in place, the demand definitely increases. It would be obvious for the existing teachers tend to demand more. It is common for every student to avail personal tuitions or enroll in some coaching institutions since attending school is not just enough! So, the parents end up paying more money because the occupation doesn’t have enough sparks to attract more professionals.

Another important aspect is that in India, teaching is specifically attached to women. More so, it is considered to be the best profession for Indian women, especially for the home makers. The reason is that it is supposed to be very convenient giving enough time for a homemaker to juggle between work and home. And so, it has become a common societal cliché. It is made to seem easy when in reality it is not! But these days, women do not believe in sacrificing for their families. This has led them to prefer the more competitive jobs.

On the other hand, it is a common saying amongst those who do not teach – “those who are not able to make it in any other profession end up teaching”. This statement definitely makes the profession seem less competitive. Not that I believe in such a statement but I have seen many of my friends taking this profession for mere convenience and not because they are ambitious enough to spread the wisdom and light. I have always believed that teaching is an art which gives an opportunity to a teacher to develop and evolve individual personalities who can contribute to the nation and society in a much better way. Those who could bring about a change and making the society better! It is receive the title of being “Noble” just like that!

In our fast paced lives of today, money seems to be more like a web which surrounds an individual like a magnet. This seems very true especially when it comes to the profession of teaching. And so, the intellectual light is definitely missing!

Life is long and throughout our lives, we keep moving towards our self-improvement. We rise and fall, we get hurt but the important thing is to continue to move on. Life never stops at one thing because no matter what, life has to move on.

Anyways, this is sounding very philosophical and I don’t think so that one has to be very serious and philosophical in life. We can still lead this life in a wonderful way with an easy going attitude, with humor and laughter. But many of us really do not. Why?

Life takes a u-turn for students who gets fail either in their board exams or in some phase of their lives. People lose their all hopes if they lose their jobs or miss some opportunity. Many of us have this tendency to cling to our past always. We keep blaming ourselves for the small mistakes we committed in our past. But why do we keep doing that? Well, you must be thinking that I am sounding like a life preacher who herself is leading a perfect life and giving gyaan to others. But friends, believe me I am amongst you only who also goes through the pangs of guilty, gets hurt and blames herself for her mistakes.

But do you really think so, that the way we criticize ourselves, we really deserve that. If we had some fight with our friend, then we blame us. If we under perform in our job , then whole night we keep punishing ourselves for making silly mistakes which only a stupid can do. Why we are so self critic?

We all make mistakes in some way or the other. And that’s the way human beings are. But isn’t it nice that we also learn to forgive ourselves for our mistakes. If fail in some exam, isn’t it really nice to forgive us for not studying enough for the exam instead of punishing ourselves? If we under perform in our job for whatever reasons, then isn’t it more sensible to still believe in our capability and resolve to do well the next day. If we can accept the sorry of other with open heart then why can’t we forgive ourselves for our mistakes?

I might be sounding very philosophical but if we actually look into our nature, then I am sure that we would find that we tend to forget to forgive ourselves. And it is really not too bad to allow ourselves to make mistakes, learn from them, then forget them and move on. I might be repeating my lines but then let me say that life is long and there is always some scope of improvement for us in this life. All the best!

According to news, Immigration New Zealand has recently barred the processing of applications from the overseas applicants intending to nark their study career at Auckland’s Kingsland Institute, which is applauded for its courses in business, cookery, English and IT. In addition to that, some of the already approved applications are also under strict observance, as recently two important men from the institute have been arrested. One of them is the manager who has been taken into custody for committing immigration related scandal.

The arrests happen after two prospective students filed complaints against the manager, Donald Hun, who has been accused of charges which are three in number and have been implemented under the Immigration Act 1987 and Act 2007. It means that he transferred wrong information to the students when he himself was not qualified/licensed to provide immigration related information to the prospective applicants.

Another person from the Kingston Institute, identified as Chheogyal Jah Om Sandyang Lepcha has been accused of providing fake information to the students. It has been confirmed that the crime was performed in October 2009 and March 2010.

According to Nigel Bickle, who is the head of Immigration, they are not sure whether the case holds wider consequences than limited to just these two accused or the mentioned institute. Hence, it is a need to check in order to maintain the integrity of the immigration system.

Therefore, those applicants who have been badly affected due to this scam are advised to make arrangements and consult a Study Visa Expert to have a hassle free future.

According to the official figures, there has been quite an increase in the number of students walking in to UK to pursue higher education. This is especially true for students belonging to the nations which are not under the European Union. This number has increased by more than 75,000 in the last one year. With this number was an additional of 31,000 dependents along with the foreign students.

The British government was following the Labor’s Points Based Immigration System which was brought about to make the process tougher for the unskilled migrants to move to UK. But instead, the process does not seem to be harder for the immigrants with most of them walking in with a student visa.

According to the British government, the system of student visas is being subject to significant abuse. As per the Immigration Minister, Damien Green, a through evaluation of the rules would be done.

At the same time, there are many foreign students who come to the nation to seek genuine degrees. The universities in UK also find them to be a good source of income especially when there is a cut being made in budgets pertaining to higher education. As per a recent research, about one-third of the universities in the nation are planning to increase their intake for foreign students for their undergraduate courses.

It was also found out that some of the colleges also catered to qualifications in subjects like acupuncture, ancient medicine as well as circus skills. Most of the students admitted in these courses have also received a work permit after they graduated.

On the other hand, there are about 4000 undocumented migrants who have supposed to have taken benefit of fake colleges to walk in to the nation. To this Mr. Green added that the nation is committed to bringing in the best of the students to come and study in UK. At the same time, there have been incidents in the past which could be easily said that the student visas system has been abused. So, it has to be ensured that only genuine students walk into the nation. Thus, a proper assessment would be done in the weeks to come. And relevant measures would be introduced which would stiffen the system and reduce the abuse of this system.
