For all the netizens out there, the term “Hinglish” is definitely not new! For those who don’t know, Hinglish is a combination of English and Hindi used while communicating. It is known that English is the most widely spoken language whereas Hindi is the second largest spoken in the world. When it comes to India, it is one of the most populated countries in the world. So, it is but obvious that Hinglish has a higher level of preference in India.

hinglish

Hinglish is now the second most commonly used language in India. And according to Professor David Crystal, it might not be long before it becomes the Queen’s new English. He says that there are more than 350 million Indians who widely use Hinglish in their daily lives as a common mode of communication. This number is far beyond the total number of people speaking in English, both in the United States and the United Kingdom.

What led to the emergence of this concept? Firstly, Indians are known to be the brainiest in the world. There are people who might debate on this statement…but it is a fact! Indians are found in every part of the world. And so, with Indians come the Indian language which obviously is mixed with the local language. This local language in most cases turns out to be English.

Secondly, connecting with the world has its own perks! The Indian culture is slowly and steadily gaining popularity outside the subcontinent. These mainly include Bollywood movies which have been found to be quite amusing, thanks to its song and dance sequences. These movies are a good source of Hinglish.

Thirdly, with the advent of globalization, Internet was introduced to Indians. With Internet came online social networking in the form of Orkut scraps, emails, chats which introduced us all to another form of Hinglish. This included using English script as a medium to communicate in Hindi. A few years back, this trend might have seemed to be very weird and probably quite difficult to comprehend to what is being communicated. This is the most common form of Hinglish used by one and all. This is to such an extent that there are some who find it quite a task to actually read in Hindi. And so, it is not very hard to believe that Hinglish would soon spread through the Internet.

In India, English has had and still enjoys a status in itself. This is due to the Colonial history that the country has. It continues to be the language of the elites and the classes. And it is the only language that binds Indians together where there are many different languages and numerous dialects.

And for the GenX urbanites, it is the new mantra of being cool! It is agreed that India lives in its villages. However, this concept is spreading beyond the urban to the semi – urban India as well.

Above all, time will tell the concurrent impact that it would have on the Indian society as a whole and its implication on a global platform.

Consider this example - Nasser Hussain, an Indian by origin went on to represent England Cricket Team and become one of the most applauded cricketers of the world! Today, he is a proficient commentator. Hard Hitter Kevin Peterson was born in South Africa, but now it is hard to imagine England team without his presence!

Consider players of Indian origin like GM Emmett, ERT Holmes, Nawab of Pataudi senior, MM Patel and RA Young who went on to play for England whereas BB Cooper and RHD Sellers chose Australia as their playing destination. Also, G Cripps and TA Ward played from the South African cricket team! You would be shocked to know that almost 30 players have symbolized Pakistan Cricket Team too! Talking about the Anglo-Indian connection, ace players like Stuart Clark and Mark Ramprakash have served an integral part of Australian and England team respectively. The list is endless.

Now let us talk something about hockey. Keegan Pereira, Gabbar Singh and Ranjeev Deol are hockey players, but of Indian origin and guess what, they all are marking their brilliance felt in the Canadian hockey team that is participating in the world cup hockey being held in India!

Sometimes, players or their families migrate from one country to another and went on to achieve – either the immigrant or family member- a place in the sports team of that particular nation! The selection in national sports teams confirm that these countries accept immigrants with open arms and do not discriminate between the immigrants and current citizens. There is equal opportunity for all!

Immigrants of Indian origin making good in sports in their new homeland! Now that is perk and side of immigration that is not looked into while taking decision to migrate. It sure is a great fringe benefit!

Under the new Immigration rules, Britain has increased its Immigration Visa fee, which would come into effect from April 2010, a move that would surely impact applicants from all over the world. For instance, applicants who apply to bring their parents to live with them from their country of origin would have to pay double the amount of fee (to more than £1,900) and an addition 10 percent would be charged for every child.

In addition, highly skilled migrants and international footballers who are planning to extend their stay would be proposed a £15,000 premium visa renewal service, as a part if the amendments made in the fee structure.

Phil Woolas, the Immigration Minister, confirmed that the applicants, who are getting the benefits from the Immigration system, should also play their role in funding it too. He said that it is fair that both should be mutually benefited as the fund will assist the staffs who work in the local communities and the 135 countries all over the globe.

Long term visit visa fee would be 610 pounds as compared to 500 pounds, charged earlier. The fee is for the visa valid for up to 10 years. The fee has been raised from 215 pounds to 230 pounds for the visa valid up to two years and for the one valid for up to five years, the fee has been raised to 420 pounds as compared to 400 pounds.

The basic cost for migrants who are intending to settle in the UK will see a hike of £644 from £585. If already in the UK, and are filing for “indefinite leave to remain,” then the fee has been increased to £840 as compared to £820. Applicants have to pay £655 in place of £640 if applying for a British citizenship.

The US Government has finally removed the ban on immigrants with HIV/AIDS that barred them from entering the country. The amendments would be followed by a bi-annual global HIV/Aids summit, giving support to America’s intentions to become a leader in fight against HIV/Aids.

The 22-year long ban was imposed in the late 1980s. According to Rachel Tiven, who is the Executive Director of Immigration Equality, these amendments were long overdue and also The 2012 World Aids Conference would take place as planned in the USA.
Rachel Tiven further added that it is terrific to see that people are moving past the whole issue of  the disease and other issues related to HIV/AIDS and that ‘stigma’ has no place in the US Policy!

President Obama in October said that they lead the world when it comes to fighting against this disease and still America is one of the twelve countries which stop the immigrants with HIV to enter the premises.

But recent amendments have given a new ray of hope to people. The news came as a relief for all those prospective immigrants with HIV planning to migrate to America and make it big there. All they have to do is consult an expert Immigration consultant and know more about the amendments.

The same old story – The attackers are Australian, the issue is racial attack and the victim, as usual, an Indian citizen, this time Nitin Garg, a 21 year-old youth who was brutally stabbed to death by some Oz assailants on Saturday night.

Nitin, originally from Punjab was on his way to a job at joint Hungry Jack’s restaurant in Melbourne, when he was attacked barbarously in the abdomen, his only fault- he was an Indian!

It seems that there is no end to this racial attacks happening in the land of Kangaroos on a regular basis. Students from all over the world enroll themselves in Australian universities to make their future but end up being brutally assaulted by groups of aggressors who leave no scope in making lives hell for them! Is this why parents send their children to Australia?

Watch Video http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/videoshow/5407235.cms

According to reports, Nitin left his breaths in the Royal Melbourne Hospital, leaving all of us with some debatable queries–

What is the answer to all these racial attacks and who is responsible for this?
Will innocent students like Nitin keep on sacrificing their lives for no reason?
Is “death” the only price for being an Indian in Oz country?

Kapil Sibal, Minister Human Resource Development would be visiting Australia in the month of April to discuss the vital issue of racial attack with Australian authorities.

Issues like these are creating a void in the Immigration world and affecting the decisions of many Immigration Consulting firms, who are also left with ‘unanswered questions’ at the end of the day!
