The introduction of the ‘New Citizenship Guide’ receives mix responses from people from all over the globe. While on one hand, it is vital for the new comers to know Canadian history and its culture, some believe that knowing the same initially would be “too much to know.”

‘New Citizenship Guide’ is a move by the Federal government to allow newcomers understand the Canadian history if they are planning to become permanent citizens of the country. Mira Malidzanovic, who is the program director of the Reception Centre in Kitchener, is of the view that the information would be too much to know for the newcomers to get initially. She said that it will in turn make life more difficult.

On the other hand, Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is of the view that the new guide would allow the newcomers know more about Canadian citizenship and help them to take the citizenship test. Also Lucia Harrison, who is the executive director of the K-W Multicultural Centre, feels that it is a good option to allow newcomers learn more about Canada. Additionally, it is decked with 20 extra pages as compared to the old guidebook published in the year 1997.
