The occupation of Medical Radiation Technologist is one of the recently added occupations to the list of 29 occupations thrown open for immigration to Canada under the federal skilled worker program, which has been recently brought out by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada on 26th June’2010. The main reason behind this is the increased demand in the services of radiology. With the Canadian government prioritizing its health care services, more intakes for educational programs in courses related to this field have been brought about. So, in the coming years, the number of radiation technologists is anticipated to rise.
Qualifying Criteria
- The applicant must have at least a Bachelors degree in health sciences in radiography, nuclear medicine or radiation therapy. Otherwise, the candidate must have attended 2-3 years of college based on his specific field in radiology.
- An applicant for Immigration under this category must have experience of at least one year as a radiologist or related field.
- A person must have experience of around 2-4 years; actual number of years of experience to apply under this occupation is dependent on many factors such as whether the applicant is married and his English language skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
The jobs and responsibilities differ as per the niche areas such as radiological technologist, nuclear medicine technologist or a radiation therapist. For instance, radiological technologist operates the X-ray, computerized tomography scanners, magnetic resonance imaging scanners, radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment which produce the anatomic images of the human body which help in the diagnosis of any disease or injury. Similarly, a nuclear medical technologist prepares radiopharmaceuticals like radionuclides along with other materials. These radionuclides are then used on the patients or the biological samples.
Based on the specialization of the applicant, his job duties would vary. If you are a radiologist looking for better prospects, immigrating to Canada is the right choice. Please write to us at ajay@abhinav.com to know more!
