5% Reduction in Immigrant Visa by Canadian Government

It has been recently announced by the Canadian government to perform a cut down in the immigration visa to Canada by five percent. Further, a majority of these cuts would be performed on family reunification visas.

Moreover, it has been said that parents and grandparents would be the class most affected by it as they would find it hard to join their children who are already there in Canada.

With the cut, the number of visas under the family reunification process granted by Canada would drop to 11,000 from the figure of 16,000.

Immigration minister Jason Kenny has confirmed that the cut is mandatory to ensure that those who have the requirement of visas in priority get them first. These include spouses and children of people living in the country. Further, he stated that choices should be made, alongside announcing that the country admitted 280,636 permanent residents last year, a figure which is a record in itself in the past 50 years.

In a mock, an immigration expert stated that these parents are more likely to see a coffin before getting a visa to Canada.

Additionally, cuts have been witnessed in other visa categories as well. Reports say that Federal Skilled Worker Visas would drop twenty percent from 70,000 to 56,000.
