According to a recent report, with an objective to curb the fraud marriages, the Canadian Government will shortly introduce conditional spousal sponsorship visas for immigrants sponsored under the Family Class Spousal Sponsorship Scheme. The government officials of Canada have confirmed that this conditional visa will be launched end of this year.
The Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister of Canada, Jason Kenney has said that Canadian immigration officials are witnessing an increased number of fraud marriage cases from certain particular nations. People use photoshop designing tool to make fake wedding images to provide evidence of their marriages to the immigration department of the country.
Under the new visa scheme, the sponsored spouse will have to be in the relationship for a particular time period, prior to the period of obtaining a permanent resident status in the country. At present, Ottawa has declared the time period as two years or above.
The Canadian government will be introducing a 5-year ban on sponsored spouses given the right to sponsor a new spouse to land in Canada. The Canadian government hopes that these modifications will make easy deportation of those who have lied in order to arrive in the country using Canada’s sponsorship program, involving spouses.
However, there are certain people who are not in favour of these changes. According to Don Davies, NDP MPm, streamlining the overseas screening process should be the main focus rather than imposing a conditional visa for the immigrants. He is mainly concerned about the fact that these modifications could lead to domestic abuse in cases of failed marriages.
