Canada is a popular immigration destination across the world. Every year, a large number of skilled professionals apply for Canada immigration, for better employment opportunities. The occupation of Architects is included in the 29 skilled occupations list of Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. According to a recent report, a maximum number of 500 applications will be accepted for processing for this occupation.

Architectural firms, private corporations and government employ qualified professional Architects or they can be self-employed. The professional Architects have to perform certain essential duties which include:

  • Consulting with clients to decide the purpose, style, and type of renovations or new construction of building
  • Conceptualizing and designing buildings and developing plans with specific designs, construction materials, costs and schedules
  • Preparing construction models or sketches for clients
  • Supervising the preparation of drawings and other documents of construction for tradespersons and contractors
  • Preparing documents of bidding, participating in contract negotiations and providing construction contracts
  • Monitoring construction sites’ activities to ensure fulfillment of specifications
  • Conducting studies and analyzing projects of construction

Architects may be categorized as residential, commercial, industrial or institutional on the basis of their construction specialization.
Though there are shortages of Architects across Canada, certain cities and provinces, namely, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Winnipeg, Ontario, and Quebec have a high demand for such skilled workers.
