What about Lithuania Law on Legal Status of Aliens!

The Lithuania Law on the legal status of aliens is the main legal act of the country, and it regulates issues like residence permits, types and conditions of residence permits.

A Lithuania Residence Permit provides the right to the overseas nationals to reside and choose their place of residence in this beautiful European country. It also allows them to change their residence place, to leave and to return to the nation within the validity period of their residence permit.

There are two types of Lithuania Residence Permits:

  • Temporary Residence Permit;
  • Permanent Residence Permit.

While for the first time a residence permit is issued to an overseas national, he is generally provided with a temporary residence permit, apart from certain cases conditioned by the Law.

When applying for a residence permit for the very first time, the applicant has to submit his application with a diplomatic mission or consular post of Lithuania overseas. However, a foreign national, who has been legally staying in the country, may apply for a residence permit along with the applicant, who applies for it for the very first time. But, submission of such applications doesn’t provide the foreign nationals the right to stay in the nation prior to any decision, made over their applications.

From the period of 2009, an overseas national or alien, who wants to work for an enterprise mentioned in the work permit, which is granted to him by the Lithuanian Labour Exchange at the Social Security Ministry and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, may be provided with a multiple entry national visa, with validity for a period mentioned in the work permit, but not more than for the period of one year.
