Washington DC Comes-up With ‘Humane’ Migration Facility at Texas, Critics Remain Unmoved

In what is being claimed to be a showpiece of the vow made by the US administration under Obama — to completely revamp the much-hated system of the country, for putting behind bars the immigration culprits – a new immigration facility (608-bed) was recently introduced at a South Texas town.

Despite the fact that the said immigration facility boasts of a rather heavy security — complete with doors that get locked automatically, via an electronic system, and windows made with reinforced glass – some concerned officers vociferously claim it is everything but a prison.

The posted guards are not equipped with cuffs. Around the facility, there’s no wall even as the outsides are painted with attractive and inviting royal-blue and burgundy colors. Besides, the rooms of the immigration facility boast of four bunk beds, an exclusive bath, a television set and a phone, which can be made use of by the inmates to get in touch with their near and dear ones, through international calls, for as low as only 15 cents every minute.

What’s more: during the nights, the policy of lights out is not enforced even as the detainees have the full liberty to roam around freely in the common areas.

Reportedly, in reply to civil-liberties court cases filed for the families held captive at an overcrowded immigration facility at the central Texas — wherein some children were allegedly held captive behind barbed-wire — the government had vowed about three years back to again mull over its policies related to detention.

Coming back to the main issue at hand, although the new immigration facility located at a South Texas town is tailored to be more humane to its inmates — many critics claim that the detainees shouldn’t be put behind bars in the first place.
