Border checks at Heathrow, London downgraded: critics

With a view to positively addressing the pressing issue of the fast increasing and serpentine queues at some of the busiest airports of Britain– and according to some critics, including some top British officers–the airport customs checks, tailored to stop drugs and arms smugglers at the airports, have been significantly compromised with, of late.

Talking about the move, some involved people and groups were quoted as saying that the scarcities of manpower and the increasing political pressure to cut down serpentine lines clearly imply that the operations to fight the arrival of drugs, guns and other smuggled goods into the shores of the nation have been stopped.

In this connection, one top officer–posted at the London’s Heathrow Airport–informed the media that prevailing situation was so dismal that the key airport of the country was having, sort of, no border controls in the matters of smuggling. He added that in the absence of sufficient manpower at the airports some of the suspicious travelers were being allowed to enter the nation, minus additional security checks. He continued that London had actually stopped running anti-smuggling operations, although it won’t accept the fact.

However, strongly refuting the claim, a concerned person was quoted as saying that the government is devoted to suitably maintaining border security. By deploying the available manpower in a rather flexible manner the govt. is still targeting drugs and illegal weapons even as it’s busy carrying its immigration work as meticulously and competently as could be possible under the given circumstances.
