Obama Regrets For Not Doing Immigration Reforms

The US president Barack Obama on Wednesday (September 19, 2012) revealed his biggest failure in immigration reform and expressed regret over this.

“I think our government’s biggest failure so far that we haven’t achieved comprehensive immigration reform,” admitted Obama, in an interview to Univision.

Obama promised for bringing some amendments in US immigration policy, when he was heading the Democratic Party as a presidential candidate in 2008.

While questioning, “Initially your government had fully control on the chambers of Congress and still you have not fulfilled your commitment of reforming the immigration policy, by Jorge Ramos, a news presenter at Univision.

Replying the question, Obama said, “At the beginning, we were purely focused on economy.” He further revealed that he had been continuously approaching oppositions for supporting his government’s plans for reformation of US immigration policy.

The Democrats and the Republicans are the two main parties in Congress majorly balanced in the both houses. But, the elections that were held in 2010 changed the whole equation, as of result, the numbers of Republicans and Democrats are not enough to balance the both houses, the Senate and the House of Representative. Meanwhile, any act needs maximum number of votes to become a law.

Thereby, it is not possible to pass any bill without getting bipartisan support to draft the law. Critics, on the contrary, say that ruling party failed to show their interest to work with oppositions.

While answering other questions ‘Americans express their huge frustration with Washington, Obama said, ” Washington is a city that can only be changed from outside, not from inside. We finally did it and integrated Americans to speak out.

Reacting on Obama’s words, Mitt Romney, presidential candidates (Republican Party) for an upcoming election, said, he (Obama) again surrendered by throwing a white flag. His slogan ‘Yes we can’ actually stands for ‘No we can’t’.

Romney also accused Obama for reforming the immigration policy and revealed it as a gimmick to win votes from Hispanic voters.
