Canada Federal Skilled worker 2013 program

The Immigration authorities at Canada have on 18th December released the Canada Federal Skilled Worker 2013 program that begins 4th May, 2013. The selection program will start accepting invitations on immigration and citizenship for Canada. However, this time the priority with the program is long-term prosperity and sustainable economic growth. The Minister for Immigration states that the Canada Federal Skilled Worker 2013 program will make sure that Canada receives the most competent and skilled workforce which is most likely to succeed in Canada. Keeping in view the objectives with the immigration policy, certain changes too have been infused into the policy document.

  1. The immigration policy places emphasis on youth and language competency as the two most important criteria with the points-based assessment.
  2. The minimum threshold on the official language and the marks allotted are being increased with an intention to have a better communication at the work place.
  3. The minimum threshold on the age criteria and the marks allotted are now being increased for the younger lot of the immigrants. The intention is to bring in a younger lot of skilled work force which is most likely to adapt to the labor market dynamics and spend a longer time contributing to the Canada’s economy.
  4. The ECA criteria on Educational Credential Assessment for awarding points on education would now place more value on the immigrant’s economic viability.
  5. The policy would aim at promptly reacting to the labor market dynamics allowing the employers to select applicants at a faster pace.
  6. The migration policy would also consider the spousal abilities on language comprehension and skill sets. A positive assessment should bring in additional adaptability points for the applicant.

The Canadian economy has long witnessed a void in the labor market for reasons of less competent workforce. The volumes were always in supply but the qualitative output could never be achieved. The present changes to the immigration policy have therefore emphasized more on the age, qualification and language compatibility of the immigrant population. The objective is to receive the most competent and skilled workforce which is most likely to succeed in Canada and remain productive for a longer period of time. The selection will be based on a younger age bracket, level 7 of the Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment system and a comprehensive assessment of the candidate’s educational credentials.
