According to the official numbers made available by the concerned body, the figure of the Test of English as an overseas Language (TOEFL) test takers in India has shot-up, lately. However, it’s not just India wherein the number of TOEFL test takers has surged ahead, as the situation is more or less same in many other countries also.
In India, a growth of nearly 7% in the figure of the test takers for the TOEFL in 2012, over the preceding year, has been registered. Even as the figure of the female test takers of the TOEFL has been 33%, the figure of males is reported to be 67% during the same year, i.e., 2012. According to the available numbers, for 2012, the TOEFL test takers represented 180 countries. Most of the TOEFL test takers (close to 90%) managed to find their way into their most preferred or second choice or college or university.
Meanwhile, an involved person has said that an impressive volume of students from India have been meeting their educational targets, post taking the TOEFL test for the past 45-odd years. He added that–as if taking a clue from the augmented status & reputation of the TOEFL amongst the student fraternity– additional testing bureaus are likely to be opened in India.
