As per a fresh research, Indians are the third-biggest group in the US with nearly 1.9 million Indian migrants staying in the country. Reportedly, only the Mexicans and the Chinese migrants are more in numbers. The populace of India in the US has headed north to more than 150 times its numbers since 1960.
Then, just over 12,000 Indian aliens constituted 0.5% of the total immigrant populace of the 9.7 million strong aliens in the country. Even till 2011, migrants from India represented not more than 5% (1.86 million) of the nation’s 40.4 million aliens.
Close to 33% of the migrants from India lived in only two US states, namely, New Jersey & California. Over 25% of them resided in three key metropolitan regions, namely, New York, San Jose, besides Chicago. Further, 2% of all illegal outsiders in the country also came from India.
The research adds that India was also the second most common country of origin for global students pursuing studies at the many US establishments of advanced learning during 2011, next to China. The study continues that the Indian migrants have better qualifications, possess good English language expertise even as they turn-up on employment-based permits. The chances of Indian migrants residing below the federal poverty line are also not high.
Further, the immigrant men from India numbered more than immigrant women from the country during 2011. Over 29% of jobless Indian migrants were involved with the information technology (IT) professions, even as 19% of the working women were employed with the management, finance, besides business sectors.
