Are Nationals of Canada Prejudiced Against Visitors?

In what could be regarded a major development, a new study—carried-out to recognize the alleged unfair attitudes of the nationals of Canada–has reportedly divulged a great deal of discrepancy in the mind-sets of the residents towards the aliens.

According to the data discovered by the well-known organization, Statistics Canada, overseas-born inhabitants in the Maple Leaf Country comprise close-to 20%, or one-fifth, of the country’s total population. Reportedly, majority of those, who took part in the study, opined that the same was due to the nation’s welcoming temperament. Still, answers were anything but comparable when some particular questions were posed.

It is hardly astonishing to notice that about 80% of the respondents stated that they would be happy with offering a job to, or working with a person from overseas. But, not more than 55% were unanimous that the immigrants were incredibly precious for developing the national economy.

The study performed online during the month of October, comprised 1500 participants even as questions were thrown at the respondents on a vast range of subjects—right from the comfort level during communications to immigration to multiculturalism. A significant section of the respondents agreed that the Maple Leaf Country is the nation that gives a red-carpet welcome to the individuals from different ethnic roots.

Despite the fact that a large number of the respondents, as much as 65% of them, stated they welcome the nation’s multicultural society, the percentage ebbed and flowed when one explores the numbers throughout the various areas in the country. While respondents from the Atlantic regions (73%) proclaimed that they were pretty comfortable with the idea of a romantic association with an overseas person, the percentage decreased to 60 in Quebec and 65 in Ontario.
