Well know Hip Hop singer Akon has been barred from entering the Sri Lankan premises, where the artist was due to perform a stage show in April, 2010. It has been reported that Akon applied for Sri Lankan Visa but ended up being on the rejected side by the country’s government. Various sources have confirmed that his recent album “Sexy Chick” was cuddled with half naked dancers moving around the sculpture of Lord Buddha, thereby arousing the wrath of Sri Lankans who are die-hard worshippers of the god. They have accused him for degrading the image of the god also.
Also, some Buddhist monks held some talks with the government and asked them to take crucial actions in the matter. Also, they also suggested not allowing the artist to hold any performance in Sri Lanka.
Hence, the final decision of barring Akon from coming to Sri Lanka was finally taken by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and tourism ministry after the incident made huge controversies almost every where in Sri Lanka.
It was affirmed that the visit would enhance tourism from Asian fans as well as other parts of the world. Platinum Entertainment, the main organizer behind the concert has nothing to speak on this issue.
A spokesman for Akon has affirmed that the artist would postpone his concert as they are hoping to ease out the issue in the coming time. Let us what the future has in store for him.
