The lawmakers in the State House of South Carolina expect a new law on immigration and some of them prefer such a law that is on similar lines with that of the recent bill passed in Arizona.
The immigration bill was introduced by Rep. Eric Benningfield as per which the police would be asked to verify the status of the immigrants who seem suspicious to be undocumented residents. The bill would also permit immigrants to be arrested without any arrest warrants. This is when an immigrant is found to have committed any form of offence which would subject them to deportation.
According to Benningfield, it is but obvious that the majority consisting of two – thirds of the votes has to be in favor for the bill to pass, but there are people who do not agree with this bill.
People in the state feel that it would not bring about any change that would be approached positively. Instead, actual change could be brought about at the federal level. As per them, it would be a breach on civil rights and other basic civil liberties which is not a very good stand.
On the other hand, the law makers in South Carolina are set to not stop the conversations pertaining to the bill. As per Benningfield, it would be the decision of the South Carolina people who are free to voice their opinion on the same. As of now, the legislative sessions would come to an end in around a month.
