More Staff at Christmas Island

The Christmas Island is flooding with asylum seekers. There are detainees, boat people, illegal immigrants and the ones who have landed here by breaching the Immigration laws. The immigration officials have affirmed that courtesy the massive increase in the number of detainees, the staff has been allotted a 20-fold increase to cater to the needs of these asylum seekers.

In addition, it has been decided to deport a huge number of asylum seekers from the Christmas land to the main land. Stats say that the Immigration staff in the past twenty four months has raised to 85 from a small quantity of just 4 staff members.

Reports say that additional work staff of 327 people has been given employment on contract basis. The hike in staff is done in order to process the claims of detainees who arrive in Australia by boat. This would result in quicker results and paced decisions.

A spokesperson from DIAC (Department of Immigration and Citizenship) confirmed that the present moment is witnessing a shift of resourcing base. Hence, the current changes are a result of the overall shifting.

According to Andrew Metcalfe from Immigration Department, more and more asylum seekers were increasing the work load, hence impacting the staff members in a major way. These members were linked with various processes like refugee status determination and protection visa decision making, to name a few.

Australia is flooding with asylum seekers. The hike in staff members would surely bring a sign of relief!
