A warning has been given by the immigration department in Australia for the shortage of seasonal workers for this year. The department has suggested all the employers to apply as soon as possible before the visa quota has been filled in.
The visa is known as the Pacific Seasonal Worker Pilot Scheme (PSWPS). This scheme caters to the labour for the industry of horticulture. This is done by granting short term visas for workers of foreign origin.
However, a shortage of supply is being expected this year by the officials from the immigration department. This is because it is being expected for bumper crop this year. At the same time, there are only limited places to be taken under the above mentioned scheme.
According to a spokesman from the Australian immigration department, a declining numbers of sources for labour in traditional harvest especially those of students and other working holiday makers clearly projects that the growers are in need of more workers than the numbers needed in the previous season. Most of the growers prefer the risk manager the threat for a shortage of workers. This is being done by securing the out of area team of labour from the scheme.
The benefit of the PSWPS is that it caters to the process of hiring for the employers. At the same time, it also looks into declining the risk of shortage of workers especially during the peak season when these workers are required the most.
