After a lengthy process, Gabe Watson has been finally subject to deportation from Australia. The main reason behind his expulsion from the nation was his death penalty and at the same time, trying to acquire an Australian visa. His deportation has been confirmed by Chris Bowen, the Immigration Minister for Australia. He was excluded after the midday AEST.
Watson was charged of manslaughter. This was further followed by the death of Tina, his wife in October 2003. He was released in the beginning of this year. However, he was detained at the immigration detention in Australia while deportation was being worked out by the authorities.
Initially, it was important for the Government of Australia to seek assurance that Watson would not be given a death penalty prior to finalizing his deportation. The process further went into a complication when Watson himself tried to seek a visa for Australia so that he could continue to reside in the nation.
According to Minister Bowen, later on, his legal representative was then provided with an assurance copy. Watson was then suggested of the arrangements that were done for this deportation.
It has to be noted here that as per the International Treaty obligations for Australia make it against sending someone to a nation especially the person is at risk of facing a death penalty.
