No Tier 1 Visa Category for Overseas Highly-skilled Workers!

As part of the changes made to the United Kingdom’s immigration policy, the nation is going to waive off the tier 1 Visa category (General) for foreign highly skilled workers. The change is going to take its effect at the time when all the amendments come to force next year.

As announced, while the government is blocking the immigration route for highly-skilled overseas workers under the points-based migration system, they are going to use the category to attract wealthy investors, entrepreneurs and individuals with unmatched talent from non-European Union nations, such as India.

Let us have a look at into the brief details about changes brought to the Tier 1 Visa category:

  • Tier 1 General Visa category that used to bring highly-skilled workers from across the world will no longer be effective.
  • Tier 1 Visa category for Entrepreneurs will be re-launched. There will be no limit on the number of entrepreneurs the country welcomes.
  • There will be re-introduction of the Tier 1 Visa category for Investors which will accelerate the process of obtaining settlement in the UK for overseas investors. Similar to the entrepreneurs’ category, this category will also not have any limit on the number of investors coming to the UK.
  • A Tier 1 visa category will also be introduced, especially for the overseas aspirants with exceptional capabilities. This visa route is likely to cater to talented people, for instance, the ones who have done something significant and were recognized for their contribution in the fields of art, culture and science. Unlike the Tier 1 for Entrepreneurs and Investors, the category for Exceptional Talent is bounded by number limit of 1,000 only.

Besides, the amendments to the Tier 1 visa category, the UK government brought in many alterations to the Tier 2 of the points-based system. Stay tuned to the Abhinav Blog or Contact an Immigration and Visa Consultant to more about the same!
