A new online application system has been introduced by the Indian Union Home Ministry. This system has been brought about to ensure a process which is transparent, faster and simpler for applicants applying for an Indian citizenship. This new system would also cater to tracking the progress of the application online.
As per a statement made by the Home Ministry, the applicants can now apply for a citizenship by logging on this site – http://mha.nic.in/icweb/ic firstpage.aspx. Apply online would lead to faster processing of the applications by the relevant agencies as well as the Central Government. Each applicant has to fill out a separate application.
An internet file number would be automatically generated after the application form is submitted online. This number is very important and recorded safely so as to print the online application form as well as to keep a track on the status of the application.
The statement also mentioned that it is required of the applicant to submit a hard copy of this computer generated application form. This copy has to be duly signed or self attested and submitted along with the supporting documents to the applicant’s nearest DC/DM/Collector’s Office in person.
This application would then be processed further as per the procedure, rules and regulations mentioned in the Citizenship Act, 1955. This act caters for an acquisition of citizenship by descent, birth, registration and naturalization.
