Wellington as a lucrative migrating destination!

Scott Campbell, a Scottish moved to Wellington out of adventure and chose to stay back as he was highly impressed with the life style it offered.

According to the report by the Labour Department many skilled migrants prefer this capital compared to the other cities in New Zealand because of better employment and education facilities not to forget the aesthetic appeal of the capital.

Even though Wellington is attractive and has really friendly people, Auckland pulls more people because of its communities and advancement. From the year 1996, it has been observed that around 60% people chose to permanently reside in Auckland as compared to Wellington which had a share of only 10%.

Campbell said that the decision to come to NZ was already made, but the city was not yet decided. He said that New Zealand is quite similar to his home country Scotland and the language Scottish was widely spoken in both the countries.

Campbell is working for Eagle Technology, as the head of the GIS technology department. He said that Wellington offered city life, packed with a lot of outdoor activities but it still had small town feel to it. He engaged in couple of outdoor activities like mountain biking, skiing etc. he lives in Wellington with his Maori partner. They also have a 2 year old kid. Campbell asserts that Wellington is simply a great city to bring up children.

He currently resides in Brooklyn, where he usually walks to work. There has been a shortage for skilled workers in New Zealand. In fact a large chunk of foreign workers were engaged in the IT industry.

Immigration Labour Department head Nigel Bickle said that Wellington could help the government to understand what goes into attracting and retaining the skilled professionals in to a destination. On the other hand, Mayor Celia Wade-Brown said that Wellington was a beautiful cosmopolitan city, that’s what made the difference.
