Immigration to Canada through Quebec selection certificate – Definitions to Know!

It is essential for the applicants planning to migrate to Canada under Quebec Migrant program (more popularly known as Quebec selection certificate) to know certain terms and definitions which would help them further with their application process.

Family member

  • A spouse/other-half or de facto spouse (the minimum age limit should be 16 years)
  • If valid, a dependant child
  • If valid, the dependant kid of that child

Spouse

A person who is wedded, having a minimum age of 16

  • He/she should not be the better half/de facto spouse of another person

De facto spouse

A person with a minimum age of 16 and who:

  • Has been living with the opposite sex/partner for a minimum of one year. The partner should be aged a minimum of 16 years
  • Has been into a conjugal bond with the person for a minimum of one year but, since the person is being offended or objects of any penal court, is unable to reside together with that person.

Dependent Child

  • The biological child of any of the parent
  • The child should NOT be adopted from a third party

One of the following facets is applicable to the “dependent child”

  • He should be under the age of 22 years; Should not be married/de-facto spouse or
  • Financially dependent on parents and
  • Aged 22 or more, enrolled in a full-time course, and not married/or into a de-facto relationship or,
  • Got into marriage/de-facto relationship before aging 22 years, and is studying a full-time course or
  • Aged 22 years or more than that, unable to financially supports himself since the age of 22 due to any disability (mentally or physically)

Skilled Worker

An overseas applicant intending to settle in Quebec with a purpose of long term employment

Entrepreneur

  • An overseas national who: Arrives in Quebec to generate employment opportunities. It is essential for him to give his participation on various management and daily operations along with employing others.
  • It is essential to have a minimum net worth of $300,000 CA (with the spouse/person sharing de-facto relationship, is applicable)
    Must be decked with a minimum of two years of experience in the venture in which he controls 25% of the equity (either on a sole basis or with accompanying spouse/person sharing de-facto relationship)

In Case the worker is working on a Self-Employed Basis

  • An overseas applicant who comes to Quebec for his own employment and works in a job listed in National Occupational Classification.
  • He should have at least net worth of $100,000 CA with his spouse/ a person with whom he shares de-facto relationship (if valid)
  • Should be attired with a minimum experience of two years in the business/trade/employment which he is planning to practice in the province.
