When filing for a New Zealand Family/Partner Class visa, an applicant along with his dependents may be required to clear a visa interview. Here, it is very important for the principal applicant along with his partner to convince the genuineness of their relationship/marriage. Many a times, partners are not granted a visa due to some minor fault in the application or due to the absence of a critical supporting document that acts as an evidence for relationship. Such instances cater to combined finances as well as showing skilled employment for the partner to claim points. There are many similar reasons for the visa to be refused.
On the other hand, there are cases where the New Zealand immigration officer is convinced of the stable and genuine relationship between the principal applicant and his partner. However, he might find that the relationship has been existent for a period less than that of 12 months. In such a case, either of the following would likely happen:
- As per the New Zealand Residence instructions, the application for the partner would be declined. This is when the grant for the visa to the principal applicant is based on the relationship or with reference with the partner.
- Incase, it is found that the grant to the principal applicant is not dependent on the partner’s attributes and their relationship; the procedure might be proved to be continued further. However, the final decision might be deferred.
Another instance is when the partner’s application is deferred; they might be permitted for New Zealand work visa. However, the application for the same has to be made. The work visa would be granted for a period which is sufficient to meet the timelines required for the residence class visa application.
