MELBOURNE: Mohammad Haneef, aged 31, doctor of Indian origin, has landed into a deal with the government of Australia being paid a “sizeable” reimbursement for the detention he received without any fault. He had to go through a brutal experience which left a bad impact on his personal as well as professional life.
The doctor faced detention after wrongly being charged of sharing connections with a bombing episode which held way back in the year 2007. He came back to Australia last week in order to get his cost for reimbursement.
He went on to say that the claim would allow him to re-establish himself, his professional life as well as his reputation in a major way. Reports say that his lawyers are denying providing any information on the compensation and kept the scenario entirely confidential. The term used for the compensation is “substantial.”
Doctor’s lawyer Rod Hodgson stated that it is an integral part of the deal that no discussion would be done on the details of the claim. Various sources say that the agreement has come after having forty eight of hours of talks with the Brisbane government.
Further, damages have been sought for lost belongings, delay in the medical profession, emotional trauma faced by the doctor and big blow to his reputation. All these are included in the claim.
Before the commencement of talks, there were all kinds of speculations in the air that the claim could even lead to 1 million dollars.
