UK Preferred Destination for Irish

UK is definitely the most coveted nation for those seeking better opportunities for life. Although, a lot of speculation is revolving around the proposed the immigration cap with the UK High Court terming it as being illegal, the nation continues to the favorite prospective immigrants worldwide.

At the same time, the applications for Tier 1 (General) Migrants have been frozen till April 2011. This simply means catering to more cuts in immigration. It clearly projects the pledge taken by the UK government to cut down on the current levels of immigrations by about tens of thousands from what it is today.

On the other hand, when it comes to Irish people, many are still walking into the nation for better opportunities. If the new figures are to be believed, about 1000 Irish still prefer to shift to UK every month.

These figures are based on the National Insurance Numbers which have been issued to the migrants. The UK Department of Work and Pensions was the source for these official statistics.

According to these statistics, about 5,630 Irish people selected UK as their destination to immigration in the first half of this year. This number is a rise by about 37 percent from the initial figures in 2002.

On the other hand, if looked at the figures of Irish immigrating to Canada, the numbers have gone down by 2000 and 2009. The figures showed only 3,462 Irish people moving to Canada. At the same time, there has been an increase by about 80 percent for people moving to Australia. This rise has been noticed from 2007 making the numbers to 1,530 in the last financial year of 2008/09. When it came to US, another 1,708 Irish migrated to States.
