Immigration Levels Fall in New Zealand

If the latest figures are to be believed, the level of immigration to New Zealand has been reducing slowly. This drop is expected to go down further as per the experts in the coming year. As per the statistics of the New Zealand immigration, the total levels of migration for this year till November have fallen when compared to the annual average over the last two decades. There was an inflow of 11,500 immigrants till November which is short by 3 percent in the entire average for 20 years.

The main reason for this decline as per Jane Turner, the ASB economist, is the constant and the rising number of people moving to Australia. She is even anticipating a higher decline in the immigration levels in the coming year.

On the other hand, it could also be seen that the employment rate in Australia has been the growing continuously. This has been exceeding the conditions of the labor market in New Zealand. So, it is but obvious that more people would be moving to Australia. This would lead to a smooth inflow in the form of 5000 to 6000 annual than the initial 12,000 people walking into the nation every year.

However, considering the economy of New Zealand, this is definitely not good news. The current demands in housing and retails would be affected badly. So, when it comes to the economic growth, this particular sector would definitely not be a major contributor to the economic recovery.

The figures also projected the number of visa applications to New Zealand. As per the sources, the maximum number of immigrants came from India catering to a number of 6,300 and rest from UK with another 4,500. However, Australia catered to about 20,100 departures which is a rise by about another 600 from last year.
