OTTAWA: According to a recent announcement made by Immigration minister Jason Kenney, Haitians in Canada temporarily have the freedom to apply for work permits in an easier manner. In his words, taking in consideration the kind of health and safety matters prevailing in Haiti, Haitians nationals who are living temporarily in Canada would be ensured an eased out process for obtaining work permit in Canada. This will allow them to support themselves during their stay in Canada.
The minister went on to say that it is mandatory for the Haitians to understand the need of work permit to gain employment in the country while they are in Canada.
In accordance with the regulations of Immigration and Refugee Act, it is mandatory for the overseas workers to have work permit along with a determination by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada to prove that working would not have any opposite impact on the country’s labor market. This is termed as LMO (Labor market opinion). This mandate has been removed by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada, hence making it simple for people from Haiti to gain employment here and maintain their immigration status.
In addition to this, nationals from Haiti planning to extend their work permit would get continued coverage under the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP). Moreover, new prospects who clear the eligibility for the same would also get benefit from the IFHP.
