Following are the eligibility requirements for partners of New Zealand citizens/residents living overseas to obtain permanent resident visa of New Zealand:
- The principal applicant must meet all the eligibility requirements for a residence class visa under the Partnership Category; AND
- The principal applicant must have a NZ citizen partner who either (a) has been living outside the Kiwi country for a minimum period of 5 years at the time of the application for PR visa is made; Or (b) has been in NZ for less than 3 months after living outside the country for a minimum period of 5 years at the time of application for PR visa is made; AND
- Both the partners must have been living together in a genuine relationship for a minimum period of 5 years at the time of application for PR visa is made.
If the principal applicant is eligible for a New Zealand permanent resident visa, any secondary applicants included in his/her applicant may also be granted a PR visa.
NOTE: Any partner of NZ citizen applying for Kiwi PR visa is eligible to be granted with a resident visa, instead of a PR visa if he/she does not meet the above criteria, but meet all the other eligibility requirements of the New Zealand Partnership Category under residence instructions.
