For the purpose of supporting an application for residence class visa under the Partnership Category, a partnership must be recognized by the Immigration New Zealand. Such an union will only be recognized if;
- The age of both the partners is 18 years or over at the time that the application for a residence class visa is made; OR
- In case, where one of both the partners are aged 16 years or over, but below 18 years at the time the petition for a residence class visa is filed, then both the parties must have the support of their parents or guardians; AND
- Both the partners have met each other before the date the petition under Partnership Category is filed; AND
- The partners are not close relatives.
