Mexicans, Chinese, Indians-Major US Green Card Holders!

According to latest reports by the United States Department of Homeland Security, in the last financial year more than one million overseas people were found themselves fortunate to have obtained legal permanent residency in the US. The number of green cards issued is overtly overwhelming and this is definitely going to encourage prospective immigrants to consider US immigration.

The report by the DHS presented the number of US green cards issued to foreign nationals in the fiscal year 2010, which lasted through September. The study revealed that a total of 1,042,625 green cards were issued. Out of the total new legal permanent residents, a majority was residing in the nation when they were granted permanent residency.

A major portion of the new US permanent residents were granted their green cards on the basis of their family connections to US permanent residents and citizens. They comprise up to 2/3rd of the total new green card holders in the United States. The figure is quite impressive!

Mexico topped the list of countries with the highest number of its nationals obtaining legal permanent residency in the past year, followed by China and India. Mexico rests at the top slot with 13 percent, while China and India, both with 7 percent.

The figures are encouraging for potential immigrants to give a second thought on their immigration plans to the US.
