In order to obtain a New Zealand resident visa under the Skilled Migrant Category, an applicant is assessed to award points for many requirements. Work experience, being one of the requirements, is recognized and it qualifies for points, given an applicant meets the below:
- The work experience of the principal applicant must be relevant to his/her current skilled employment in New Zealand; OR
- The work experience must be relevant to the principal applicant’s recognized qualification; OR
- The work experience must be skilled and relevant to any occupation included in the list of skilled occupations of New Zealand.
- The work experience must have been gained in a labor market which is comparable to that of New Zealand. However, this is not a matter of issue if the work experience meets the work experience requirements in an absolute skill shortage area; or in case, the principal applicant of resident visa has current skilled job or a skilled job offer in the Kiwi country.
