Amend in the Migration Act by Greens!

The political party Australian Greens is moving ahead to bring about changes in the immigration policies of the nation. This change would cater to over seven hundred children and their families who have been detained.

Patrick McGorry who was bestowed with the title of Australian of the Year has termed these detention centers as factories which only aid to mental illness has also joined the Greens party. He joined the immigration spokeswoman for Greens, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young where they announced the plan of the party to remove children from these detention centers. The amendment in the Migration Act would be brought about once the Senate gets back into sitting in the coming weeks. The amendment would cater to exemption of children from being kept in these detention centers.

However, it seems as neither the coalition party not the Labor seems to support this amend. As per Senator Hanson-Young, children should be residing in a community instead of these detention centers till the time they wait for their hearings. Children need legal safeguarding which the nation should provide them with.

Additionally, the party has also asked for the expansion of the Community Assistance Support program along with a Commissioner from Commonwealth for Children and Young People.

At the same time, Mr. McGorry has made it clear that he has no intentions of being a part of the Greens and by helping the party; he does not intend to venture into politics. His main objective is to bring the facts clear regarding the impact of mandatory detention.

However, appropriate figures were not brought out by the Senator. Instead, she said that government has to submit this plan to the treasury for bring about the relevant costing figures.
