Amnesty Affirmed Prolonged Wait for Detainees!

Australia: Amnesty International stated that various people going through detention process are going through prolonged wait to know their application status. Reports confirmed that the organization recently made a visit to the Asti motel as well as the Airport Lodge, places where the detainees are accommodated as a part of their detention process.

Dr Graham Thom from Amnesty International Australia has written in his report regarding the visit that a Kurdish clan has been facing the detention for more than seven months now. They are being kept at the Asti Motel.

According to the department of Immigration, 160 days is the average time taken to assess and cater to the applications of asylum seekers. But according to Dr Graham, the reality is a lot more different than is normally out forward by the Immigration department. He went on to say that certain pupils held at the detention centre could not be present at the school.

Further, the incidents of suicide, brawls and self harms are indicating what prolonged waiting periods can do to the detainees. It shows how rapidly the situation gets worsen in the detention centre. Even is the span is 160 days, it is too long to sustain.

The Immigration department has further confirmed that accommodating the detainees in motels is only a temporary solution and soon these detainees would be moved from the premises.

The overflowing condition of detainees is leading to further chaos in various detention centers all over Australia.
