A big jump has been noticed in the quantity of asylum seekers wanting to reside in New Zealand. As far as the figures are concerned, last year saw a hike of from 246 to 382, with the nationals from Fiji coming out with the maximum number of appeals, 24 in number.

Indian came at second number, generating 22 such cases, sharing its spot with Iran, while Sri Lanka came out with 13 and Pakistan with 10 in number. Countries like Iraq and Afghanistan managed 6 and 5 respectively.

Another authority, the Removal Review Authority showed the same figure, hence concluding the fact that a hike has been seen in the number of asylum seekers intending to stay in New Zealand.
