Australian Business Council has proposed the Australian government to increase skilled immigration quota to accommodate surging demand of resources sector.
The labor market of Australia is concerned about inevitable skilled workers shortages due to numerous impending multi-billion dollar projects to be start in future or already started. Currently, the labor resources sector is unable to accommodate current industries demand including mining sector which is rousing a concern among business community of Australia.
Australian Business Council has proposed the Australian government to amend the 457 visa program to cope with the surging labor demand or introduce a special fast-paced worker agreement specifically designed to appraise visas for large projects.
Australian immigration department currently declared fast-paced visa approvals for companies engaged in reconstruction efforts concerning the significant destruction due to recent floods.
Making this incident their base business communities asked the government to expand the agreement to other big projects. The employers are concerned about hiring temporary skilled workers due to involvement of stringent documentation and lengthy delays. This was the prime issue rose by the business groups before Australian government.
A recent report suggests that more than 140,000 skilled immigrants are suffering with processing backlog of around 28 months. This is a significant issue before Immigration Minister Chris Bowen that how he is going to make skilled immigration process fast-paced so that this vast back log can be removed.
