The Government of Australia is aiming at attracting more number of overseas skilled workers to the country. The government of this beautiful nation is planning to do so by bringing fast track changes to the 457 visa program.
The federal government is extending the time period from 3 to 6 years to allow some businesses to become eligible to apply for the sponsor workers. Chris Bowen, Immigration Minister of Australia, was quoted as saying that he has created a new scheme of accreditation for the 457 visas.
According to this new accreditation scheme, trades can be accredited, in case, those trades have been a dynamic 457 visa sponsor for period of last 3 years, taking the responsibility of minimum 30 foreign personnels over the period of last one year and can provide assurance that their native workforce is 75% Australian people. They will then be kept into a priority line for all the prospective visa applications. Even, they will be provided with 6 years approval to invite skilled personnels rather than the 3 years.
In this connection, Mr. Brown went on to add that this process will keep on ensuring that the 457 visa scheme responses to the financial cycle and offers a flexible way for employers to meet their urgent and temporary skill needs, while keeping opportunities open for Australian skilled personnels.
He further mentioned that there has already been an outstanding improvement to the system with reduced processing time. At present, the average amount of time for 457 visa processing is 30% lesser than the year of 2006 to 2007. It has reduced from 31 days to 22 days.
According to a report, Mr. Brown has expressed that reducing the processing time for 457 visa applications to 10 days, is the main objective of the government.
The popularity of 457 visas is increasing day by day. In between the period of 2010 to 2011, 54,360 visas have been issued to overseas immigrants. It got increased by 38% in comparison to the previous periods. However, Britain is the most popular nation with 11,820 citizens issued visas to this Land of Kangaroos.
