A poll by Essential Research showed that more than half of the Australian respondents of the poll are in favor of the view that new migrants should be provided with government incentives for choosing some specific regions in Australia for settlement. The specific regions refer to those places that need migrants, along which can cope with higher populations.
The online research was conducted last month, which interviewed 1, 059 Australian adults. He poll stated that fifty-five percent of the respondents believed new migrants should be provided with incentives for settling in specific Australian regions; while thirty percent opined that government should not do so; while fifteen percent respondents did not commented as they remained neutral.
At present, Australia has a total population of more than 22 million. The dramatic change to the immigration pattern of the country has been a matter of concern. The overall immigration level to Australia increased from just over 30,000 in the early 1990s to over 177,000 in 2006 and 2007. It seems that Australia has been taking a few steps towards addressing the problem of increasing immigration level. So, can we call the suspension of applications from asylum seekers from Sri Lanka and Afghanistan one of those steps?
However, Chris Evan, the immigration minister of the country has to say that the suspension is the result of changing circumstances in Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. According to him, the country has taken a strict step pertaining the people who are being smuggled or trafficked and this is a decision that would strengthen the integrity of the country’s immigration system.
