In order to be eligible to apply under the Skilled Workers category of the BC PNP Strategic Occupations Stream, applicants are required to have completed post-secondary education. They must have many years of work experience in a skilled occupation. The British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program utilizes the National Occupational Classification, which includes the classification of all occupations in the Canadian Labor market.
Applications for job positions under Skilled Workers category are accepted by the BC’s Provincial Nominee Program under certain Skill levels- O, A and B, as per the National Occupation Classification index. The basic requirement for all the occupations/job positions mentioned under these levels in the NOC is post-secondary qualifications, as well as years of work experience in the field related to the offered occupation/job.
While accepting applications from BC employers for hiring foreign nationals, the PNP takes the current demand, as well as future prospects of all occupations into account. Therefore, when the authorities find that a particular occupation is not facing skill shortages locally, they would not accept applications from employers for that occupation. Also, PNP does not approve application for those occupations that do not hold rich future prospects. In order to determine the demand of specific occupations, the BC Provincial Nominee Program seek the help of the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and other statistical organizations for Canadian labor market information.
