All about Canada Study Permit Visa

Are you a foreign national, who wants to migrate to Canada with the purpose of higher studies? If you are, then in order to do so, you will have to apply for a Canada Study Permit.   The Government of Canadaissues the study permit to the applicant that provides study permission in the country for a short-term period. The Study Permit mostly specifies the particular institute of education and the study courses.

As Study Permit is a temporary resident visa therefore, while entering into Canada, the applicant of this particular visa has to convince the visa officer that he will be staying temporarily in the country until the period his study gets over. However, the applicants, who are not a citizen of any visa exempt nation, will have to submit an application for a Temporary Residence visa and a study permit.

Conditions to Qualify for a Study Permit

  • Must have an acceptance offer from a reputed educational institute of Canada.  It has to be in a form of letter from the institute.
  • Have to show that the applicant has adequate money to pay his tuition fee, along with his normal living costs during the course of study, up to the period of one year.
  • The applicant might have to go under a medical test. Unless the applicant is from a visa exempt nation, he will not need to apply for the visitor visa for the purpose of study in the country.

A study permit is generally valid for the duration of the course that the applicant pursues.

Criteria to work holding a Study Permit

There are certain conditions under which one can work while holding a Study Permit in Canada, they are:

  • If it’s a campus job;
  • If the applicant receives scholarship;
  • If the job is considered a vital part of the study program;
  • If the job involves educational research or post-doctoral fellowship;
  • If the job comes after completing his graduate degree in a relevant study field;

The spouse of an international student is allowed to do job in Canada temporarily.

Certain Conditions Where Study Permit Not Required

  • If the applicant go for a language training course either on French or English which is over 3 months period.
  • If the applicant is the dependent child or spouse of any diplomat or consular officer, a foreign county representative, the United Nations’ representative or other inter-governmental organization and Canada is a part of them.
