Canadian Immigrant Investor Program Re-opened!

Canada started accepting applications from newcomers for the Immigrant Investor Program. For your information, the country has suspended the program in June of 2010, in order to deal with the high volume of applications coming its way.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada announced that it would again start accepting for the Federal Immigrant Investor program from 1st December 2010. The federal program grants foreign investors permanent residency, which is one of the prominent benefits. There are other benefits of the programs that successful applicants are entitled to enjoy.

The Canadian immigration department has changed the investment criteria for overseas applicants of late. Let have look at the new Canadian Immigrant Investor Program criteria:

  • Applicants must have a personal net worth of 1,600,000 Canadian Dollars. As per the old criterion, immigrants were required to have 800, 000 Dollars.
  • Applicants must make an investment of 800,000 Canadian dollars, which is up from 400,000 Canadian Dollars as required earlier.

The country’s immigration minister expects that with the implementation of the new criteria for the Federal Investor Immigration Program, the country will bring its foreign investor policies in line with the other western countries. As per the immigration department, Canada boasts one of the lowest investor programs if it is compared to other countries’ investor program.
