Children or Family of Principal Applicant(s): Parent Category!

Under the Parent Category of the residence class visa, the children or family of the principal applicant(s) include the following:

  • Any or all biological and adopted children; AND
  • Any child of the partner of the principal applicant, where the child has spent a major part of his/her life, basically in between the time his/her relationship with the principal applicant began and when he/she became 18-year-old, as part of the principal applicant’s family unit.

In the case, if the principal applicant is a legal guardian, his/her children or family may include the following:

  • The NZ citizen or the residence class visa holder who also happens to be the sponsor of the principal applicant; AND
  • The principal applicant’s biological, as well as adopted children; AND
  • Children or a child for whom the principal applicant has served the responsibility of a legal guardian after the child’s parents were deceased; AND
  • Children or a child of the partner of the principal applicant, where the child has spent a major portion of his/her life being a part of the principal applicant’s household, during the period when the child’s relationship with the principal applicant started and when the child became 18-year-old.

In the case, if the principal applicant is a grandparent, his/her children or family may include:

  • The New Zealand citizen or the residence class visa holder who is also the sponsor of the principal applicant; AND
  • The principal applicant’s biological, as well as adopted children; AND
  • Children or any child of the partner of the principal applicant, where the child has spent a major portion of his life as part of the principal applicant’s household, during the time when the child started the relationship with the principal applicant and when he/she became 18-year-old.
