It has already been discussed that certain New Zealand residence categories require a foreign national to have someone in the Kiwi land to sponsor him/her in order to obtain a Residence Class Visa. Having a sponsor for a foreign national means getting certain assistance in the altogether new country, while on the sponsor’s part, he/she is entitled to certain sponsorship undertakings during or after the completion of the sponsorship period. Now, it is the right time to discuss the duration of sponsorship period. Let us do that.

A sponsor of a resident visa holder in New Zealand is entitled to meet the sponsorship undertakings from the very first date when the sponsored person lands in New Zealand. Or, in case, the latter is already present in the country, the sponsor’s responsibility comes into effect from the date when the resident visa with sponsorship condition is granted by the Immigration New Zealand. And the sponsor’s responsibility towards the sponsored person continues till the date;

• The sponsored person is issued with a new visa, with sponsorship requirements or without; or
• The agreed sponsorship duration in the particular category under which the resident visa has been granted gets over; or
• The sponsored person is deported from the Kiwi land.
